Hi everyone!
I’m not sure how it happened, but somehow I became “responsible” for organizing Cues on Tap events in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area.
Not that I mind, though! So, I figure a little biography is in order.
I was born profoundly deaf. The official reason: unknown. The assumed reason? Some sort of viral infection, as a CT scan of my cochleas seems to indicate viral-based damage to the hair cells.
When I was 3-1/2 years old, my parents and I started cueing. Since then, I’ve never looked back. Along the way, I learned how to sign, thanks to being enrolled in Montgomery County Public Schools. I attended Flower Valley Elementary School, home of the Cued Speech program. I also attended Earle B. Wood Mid-Level School and Rockville High School, which are also program schools–and those schools had a mix of deaf and hard-of-hearing students who signed, cued and/or spoke.
I am currently a technical writer and project associate at a social sciences research organization based in Washington, DC. I am also on the board of directors of both the National Cued Speech Association and the Maryland Cued Speech Association. I also occasionally teach classes and workshops. I have been a certified instructor of Cued Speech since 2005.
Hope to see you at future cueing events!
